However, having a discussion about plus sized women finds 2009 as quite a year in television for them. Lifetime has the series Drop Dead Diva. A bit stereotypical in premise- thin, blonde woman (hence ditzy and shallow) came to inhabit the body of a large woman (intelligent but without self-esteem). So, the idea is that now all the positive attributes inhabit this plus sized gal. Hey, its Lifetime and not my show. But the upside is that it does have a large sized woman playing the lead who often wears a plus sized black pencil skirt. Interesting because before or after the show’s premise was established as a fashion it worked on the lead actress. I guess it is about how one works it.

The other was a reality show poorly named More To Love. This is another women want a man show like The Bachelor or Flavor of Love. Except as this title and this post implies involves plus sized women. The downside in my opinion was that the man wasn’t desirable, but I usually feel that way with these shows. Still, women fight tooth and nail to be chosen as The One. Unless the show is a hit, in which case the man will be back for round two or three seeking his true love again.

Regardless in both cases, it goes to show the networks are paying attention to large women. Maybe they are not trying hard but they are paying attention.
